rikaanse) humor. Van Loon schrijft aan zijn op
drachtgevers: „If the est. public should like it
sufficiently well to drop everything in hand and
make straightway for the terrestrial Paradise I
describe, so much the better for you ,but if it pro-
ves a flop, then you merely say, „Oh, well, just an-
other one of those little Van Loon books and you
know what we think about them1"
1936. Sydney A. Clark: „Holland on 10". London;
Ivor Nicholson and Watson.
tekeningetjes. De schrijver klaagt over het „dure"
Holland en geeft drie adviezen: (1) Let your Hol
land life be a short and a merry one. (2) Go Dutch
in the matter of transportation. (3) Remind your-
self that Holland is one of the super-cleanly coun-
tries of the world.

1938. Hendrik de Leeuw: Crossroads of the fuider-
fee"Philadelphia, New York, London, Toronto;
J. B. Lippincott Company.
Uit het voorwoord: „Comparatively very little
has been written in the way of general travel
literature of this interesting speek on Europe's
map. Is it not true that often the greatest values
come in small packages? Well, that applies so emi-
nently to the Netherlands too'" Heel vlot en aar
dig geschreven.

(A Study of some aspects of Art, Costume and
Social Life). London, New York,
Toronto, Sydney; B. T. Bastford Ltd.
De
keuze der onderwerpen is nogal wil
lekeurig. Er komen onnauwkeurig
heden voor in de tekst. Het boek
is rijk geïllustreerd en laat zich verder
prettig lezen.
